Dear Ms. Cook,

I would like to apply for the position of circulation sales representative at the Newark Reporter that you advertised in Sunday’s paper. My resume is enclosed for your review.

As my resume indicates, I worked as a circulation sales assistant at the Newark Reporter from 1988 to 1991. My personnel file would show that I earned high performance ratings from my supervisor. I left my position in 1991 to try life in a small town.

While serving as circulation sales representative at Hill Corporation, I have fulfilled the same responsibilities as those required of the position at the Newark Reporter. A few highlights of my performance include:

• recommending locations for new outlets that became very successful;
• improving driver productivity; and
• earning the “Sales Representative of the Year” award last year.

With these qualifications and my knowledge of the Newark area, I believe I would be an asset to your sales department. I am also looking forward to returning to Newark because a provincial lifestyle does not really suit me.
