Hello,
Finals are over, and I’ll be graduating with my bachelor’s degree soon. I think that this would be an appropriate time to tell you something: I’m going to go on to graduate school.
I know you were counting on me <what you were expected to do> but I really want to learn more and maybe go into <your career plans> and this is the way to do it. I’ll be applying for financial aid and scholarships, and there are ways I can work to pay for my tuition, so I won’t need your money. What I will need is your support. I hope I can count on it. I’ll be home in <time you’ll be home>. I’ll try then to tell you more about why I’ve made this decision. Until then, be happy for me, okay?
Regards,
Robert Anderson
