Dear Ms. Cook,

The word around town is that you are looking for a ship’s mate. If that is true, then the happy coincidence for me is that I am now certified as a ship’s mate by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. In any case, I am enclosing my resume for your review.

As my resume indicates, I was first a seaman for the U.S. Navy and then an able seaman working out of Santa Cruz. I believe that my training in the Navy was invaluable in preparing me for a successful commercial career. I am a highly motivated worker who has gained the respect of my co-workers and superiors. I am confident of my abilities to fulfill the role of ship’s mate.

I hope to have the opportunity to talk with you soon. Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Martha Klingman
