Dear Ms. Cook,
During your recent visit to the Georgia State University campus, I had the immense pleasure of speaking with you. In our conversation, we spoke of a possible opening in your office for which you thought I would qualify. I have enclosed a copy of my resume as application for an internship. I would welcome the opportunity to work under your direction in any capacity.
You spoke of the “old fashioned” ideals I was brought up believing in, and in which I still have a great deal of faith. Among these are valuing diversity, the importance of citizens’ involvement in government affairs and the need for American citizens to accept a greater sense of responsibility for the direction of American government. As these ideals are viewed less often as being “old fashioned” than as being expected behavior, we may begin to focus more often on searching, not for someone upon whom to blame our problems, but for the solutions to those problems.
