On the recommendation of my department head, Dr. Farley Hauser, I submit this letter of application for the position of instructor of mass communication at the University of Maine. Dr. Hauser discovered this job opening in last week’s Journal of Higher Education.
During my years of teaching as a graduate student and an instructor, I taught two or more courses each term in professional communication. I have consistently earned a rating of “excellent” in my evaluations, both from my students and from the communication department faculty. In addition, I served as a graduate research assistant to Dr. Barbara L. Anderson as she prepared a paper for presentation at the Speech Communication Association annual convention in 1992. The topic for this paper was “The Effect of Saturday Night Live Sketches on Young America’s Speech.” My research and teaching background and my private sector experience with two television stations and an advertising firm make me an excellent candidate for the position of instructor in your department.
